NEC polyphonic handsets

At the time of writing,  the only tested NEC polyphonic handsets are the phones on the '3' network,  including the popular e606 3g handset.

Creating the ringtone file

To add standard ringtones to your e606 simply save the rtttl ringtones you like as midi files using the 'File' -> 'Save current ringtone to file' option.  For the e606 select the single channel midi file (not the multi channel option) as this is the format that is compatible with your phone.

To add polyphonic ringtones to your e606,  select 'File' -> 'Polyphonic Phone Tools' -> 'Convert midi to NEC midi file'.  This will open a new screen that will let you choose a midi file, and save this in the NEC midi file format so you can transfer it to your phone.  This feature was added in version 4.5.

Transferring the ringtone to your phone

To transfer ringtones to your e606 you can use the supplied e606 PC File Transfer software.

First, connect your handset to your phone using the supplied USB cable,  or bluetooth.   Now, on your phone press the menu button,  then select the bottom right icon labeled 'Data Transfer'. A new menu will appear, Select 'To/From PC' to put your phone in a data connection mode.

Now on your PC,  start up the File Transfer software.  You should have an icon for this on your desktop after installation using the standard NEC Tools and Utilities disk supplied with the phone.

Once the File Transfer software has started),  select 'Ringtune' from the options,  then select 'Send PC -> Handset' and click ok.

You can now click the 'Add...' button to locate the midi files you have created using the Ringtone Converter and download these to your phone.
